TIME magazine Named Motorola DROID Handset of the Year

Previous winners of the award have inclued Apple’s iPhone, which slipped to fourth place on this year’s list. Interestingly Palm’s much hyped Pre, their comeback handset if you will, didn’t feature on TIME’s list at all. It’s not only a big victory for Motorola, but for Android too, further enhancing the growing reputation of the OS. In justifying the decision to give the award to the DROID TIME said “Everybody likes Android, Google’s open-source smartphone operating system. But a smartphone operating system isn’t all that satisfying without an actual kick-ass smartphone wrapped around it”. Motorola certainly seemed to have impressed both industry watchers and consumers alike with the DROID, it has consistently garnered high praise from a wide variety of sources. It wasn’t all that long ago that Motorola had pretty much been written off as a major player in the mobile phone business, but their experiments with Android seem to be bearing fruit.Motorola will be celebrating
